Steve McConnell put it perfectly when he stated in “Chapter 4: Software Engineering, Not Computer Science” of his recently published book “Professional Software Development”:
The proper question is not “What is software development currently?” but rather “What should professional software development be?”
Thanks to an anonymous poster who in response to our question of the week on “Software Engineer vs. Computer Engineer vs. Computer Scientist” linked to a PDF version of the chapter that answers this question. The chapter answers I feel perfectly what the difference between Software Engineering and Computer Science SHOULD be. It is a very quick read… check it out.
