Our 25th Post!!!

One needs to celebrate small milestones. If the time between milestones is too great and you don’t reward yourself often enough for your accomplishments you end up getting discouraged and you stop working at your full potential. Something that most managers don’t understand!
I have learnt a lot over my first 25 posts and I hope you don’t mind me sharing what I have learnt with you.
What I have learnt During Our First 25 Posts:
- There is always something we can improve on, and you will never be perfect;
- I can’t write for the life of me;
- I love to learn, but I hate to implement, maybe consulting is my calling after all;
- Protose can’t be everything for everyone… we have to stay focused on Software Engineering;
- Website traffic does not go from 0 to 10,000hits/day over night, neither does it in one week;
- Original content is what is going to make people come back for more… now I need people to write it;
- To make Protose successful it is going to take a community of really passionate people to help by writing, promoting and commenting.
- You always want to implement everyone’s feedback but you just can’t because what is good for one is not always good for all, but I am proud to say we have implemented more then 80% of the feedback we have received;
- I have to move to a framework that allows me to easily add pages to the website and make MT just write the articles, either Rails or Fusebox but I am sticking to FLiP;
- I am more of a UI, Requirements, Project Management type of guy and not in the greatest position to post on the more hardcore sections like design, architecture and testing… we are going to need some help Houston;
- I always remember so many things I would of loved to add to my post only after posting it, I hate that feeling.
Interesting tidbits of info from the first 8 days of being live:
- We have raised our first $1.88 US to go towards our scholarship, this is a good thing, I am not being sarcastic. This is with very minimal traffic. I dream at night about the day we give away our first scholarship. That is the thing that is closest to my heart… keep on clicking on our sponsors.
We still can really use some help from people who want to volunteer, we can really use people who want to:
- Submit posts to articles on software engineering that they have found online or that we supply a link to (we have many articles we still have not written posts to);
- Write articles on any topic related to software engineering that they are passionate about.
So these are my observations from my first 25 posts. I hope my next 25 will be even better but my next major milestone will be 100. I am sure I will learn a lot more by then,
